Latin Club
Advisor: Nina Barclay - Tirrell
The Latin Club is made up of Latin students and others who are interested in the goals of the club: to compete, travel, celebrate and explore our link to the Romans. We sponsor a chapter of the National Junior Classical League, whose purpose is to promote the understanding of our debt in mythology, language, culture and art to Ancient Rome. The club also represents NFA in interscholastic competitions and is a strong leader at Connecticut's annual State Latin Day which includes some 1400 students.
The Latin Club is one of NFA's most active clubs. We take field trips, host events at school and participate in many campus activities in conjunction with other clubs. Our field trips include visits to art museums, the Roger Williams Zoo, and Brown and Yale Universities, other high schools and Connecticut's State Latin Day. At NFA we participate with the other Language Clubs in the Mardi Gras Carnival, Poetry Coffeehouses and International Dinners. We invite other Latin clubs to NFA to play volleyball, bowl or perform skits in Slater Museum.
The Latin Club gets together for parties several times a year, and occasionally plans other events for the community. Last year a group of club members designed a mythology unit to share with 4-6 year olds at Slater Museum. Latin Club members also compete for awards in many academic and extracurricular contests which the Club helps manage. |
