January Meeting of the Student Advisory Board
President Hunter Kodama calls the meeting to order at 2:21.
Attendance was taken and the minutes from December were accepted.
Director’s Comments-
Mr. Laudone welcomed the students into the second semester. There are many upcoming events, including: Family Day in May, a Food Drive in March, and a Blood Drive on April 1. Mr. Laudone asked students to come up with ideas for the keynote speaker for the May Conference.
Treasurer’s Report-
In the past month, the SAB spent $826.55. The current balance is $1,354.07.
Committee’s Report-
Special Olympics/UNIFIED- Gilio Wilson
The first dance of the season was held at Bacon Academy and 20 students attended. There are currently 40 students signed up for UNIFIED basketball. Twenty students on the Special Olympics Speed Skating Team are getting ready for the local competition at the Norwich Rink to be held in a couple weeks. They are very excited for the overnight competition February 27 and 28.
Activities- Kaitlin Murphy
The Pancake Breakfast before Midterm exams went very well. There will be fliers and announcements advertising the Battle of the Sexes, the spirit week of February 8th. Monday is Heritage Day, Tuesday is Color Day, Wednesday is Dress to Impress Day, Thursday is Sports Day, and Friday is Red and White Day. Family Day in May is in the early stages of planning.
Legislative-Bryce Dumas
The Legislative Branch has proposed to amend the constitution to change the number of students accepted to the Board by way of the Interview and Essay Election, changing three spots to five spots or more, at the advisor’s discretion.
Logistics- Vivian Zhang
Christina Chapman was the Top Cat winner for the second quarter. There were many nominations, and it is greatly appreciated. May 22nd, a meeting with Aramark is planned to discuss Family Day.
Class Reports-
Class of 2010-
There are many fundraisers planned in the upcoming months, including a Valentine’s Day Cookie sale and Mr. NFA. Coronation is scheduled for February 3rd.
Class of 2011-
The top three Prom themes will be voted on within the month. They include: Las Vegas, Masquerade, and Tropical. There is a Doughnut Sale, and Jim Spinato is coming for a fundraiser on April 24th.
Class of 2012-
No report.
Class of 2013-
The drawstring bags will be sold at the games and the curriculum fair. So far 115 bags have been sold. The class has also planned a doughnut sale.
Old Business-
There were 15 nominations last marking period. VegWare, which is biodegradable food ware, is a possible solution for Styrofoam. Which prices are increased to offset the cost of the product needs to be decided. The iPod proposal has not been discussed yet by administration but will soon be on the agenda.
New Business-
Suggestions for the keynote speaker for the end of the year conference include: Dan Malloy, and Kenny Reals. More suggestions will be taken next week. More SAB shirts will be ordered because eleven people are interested. Homerooms were asked to discuss the amendment proposal.
