TVC851 BEGINNING VOCAL TECHNIQUE: This course is designed to teach a student the basic technique used for singing. The student will be expected to learn basic music theory as well as perform frequently for the class. The course involves learning solfege, sight singing and simple piano skills. (1 credit) Open to L, U, & S.
TNA671 NFA AMBASSADORS: This is an advanced singing group of 4-part mixed voices. Students will be expected to sight sing proficiently as well as adhere to the highest standard of musical excellence. This group will perform repertoire from the Baroque and Classical era. This course requires excellent music reading skills. Placement is by
audition at the end of the year. (1/2 to 1 credit) Open to L, U, & S.
N.F.A. BAND: This is a performing organization comprised of students with a wide range of musical experience and ability levels who play flute/piccolo, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium/baritone, tuba or percussion. Attendance is required at all performances including: concerts, parades, football games, etc., as well as additional rehearsals. Students may register for this course after receiving permission from the Band Director. Additionally, all students will be automatically registered for Marching TMB371 (First Semester PM Course = 1/2 credit) unless they arrange a waiver with the Band Director. Open to J, L, U, & S. (1 credit) Prerequisites: N.F.A. Concert Band I.
TAB361 N.F.A. BAND - PERCUSSION: This course is for students who play concert percussion including timpani, xylophone, marimba, vibraphone, bells, snare drum, and other appropriate percussion instruments. (1 credit).
TBB301 BEGINNING INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC: This course offers instruction to students with no experience playing the following instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, & tuba. Some instruments may be furnished. This course will prepare students for the NFA Band. This course does not cover bass, guitar, drum set, or piano. Students may register for this course after receiving permission from the Band Director. This is a full year course meeting twice a week. (1/2 credit) Open to J, L, & U.
TPB301 BEGINNING PIANO -This course is designed to teach a student the basic technique used for playing the piano. The student will develop skills through the use of scales, music theory and piano performance repertoire. This course is designed for students who have no prior knowledge of the piano. TGB301 BEGINNING GUITAR - This course is designed to teach a student the basic technique for playing the guitar. The student will develop skills through reading guitar tablature, reading music and learning basic music theory harmonies. This course is designed for students who have no prior knowledge of the guitar. (½ credit) Open to L, U, & S.
TOR361 ORCHESTRA: This is a performing organization comprised of students with a wide range of musical experience and ability levels who play violin, viola, cello, double bass, and harp. Attendance is required at concerts, etc., and additional rehearsals. Students may register for this course after receiving permission from the Director of Instrumental Music. Open to J, L, U, & S.
TJZ651 JAZZ ENSEMBLE: This course is open to advanced instrumental music students who play trumpet, trombone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, piano, guitar, double bass and/or bass guitar, set or aux./mallet percussion. Music of the modern jazz media that encompasses our current society will be studied and performed. Students must be a member of the NFA Band or have permission from the instructor to register for Jazz Ensemble. An audition for this ensemble is required. (Second Semester PM Course = 1/2 credit) Open to J, L, U, & S.
TKB651 MUSIC APPRECIATION: No prior musical studies or experience is required for this course. This class will examine how composers from Bach to Hip-Hop have used the basic elements of music to express their feelings and ideas. Students will gain a working knowledge of these elements and will develop basic music theory, and composition skills. A major percentage of the course will be devoted to listening actively to music of all types (including student selections) and analyzing its actual construction as well as emotional and musical messages. This class will also prepare students for further music study. This is a full year course meeting twice a week..(1/2 credit) Open to J, L, U, S.
TMH671 MUSIC HISTORY: Students may register for this class after taking MUSIC APPRECIATION or with permission of the instructor. This class will listen to and examine how the elements of MUSIC APPRECIATION developed through time. The emphasis will be on Western Art Music but will also include a section devoted to 20th century popular styles. This is a full year course meeting twice a week.. (1/2 credit) Open to L, U, & S.
TTH656 AP THEORY AND HARMONY: This course is open only to advanced music students who want to learn about the harmonic structure of music. A knowledge of note reading is essential. There is a $30 fee to cover the cost of a workbook. Prior permission is needed. (1 credit) Open to S.
TWE655 NFA HONORS SYMPHONIC WIND ENSEMBLE: This is a performing organization comprised of advanced wind players and percussionists. Music of the modern wind ensemble will be studied and performed.
