DIT301 DRAMA I: This course is to acquaint students with various aspects necessary for professional theater study. It is divided into numerous units that will be covered throughout the year, so that students will have a basis for future work in this field. This is a full year course meeting twice a week. DDA301 BEGINNING DANCE: This class will introduce beginning dance students to the history of dance throughout history. Various cultural dances will be explored to increase students’ knowledge and appreciation of movement and how it relates to society, their own personal growth, self-esteem and personal experiences. Students will learn self-discipline and self-motivation as they creatively explore diverse dances. (˝ credit) Open to J, L, U, & S.
DDA401 INTERMEDIATE DANCE: This course will help advanced students identify, analyze, and apply various criteria through dance movements, variation of music and self-expression to help develop critical and creative skills. Students will investigate the work of various choreographers and their influence on dance as an art form. (˝ credit) Open to L, U, S. Prerequisite – DDA 301 Beginning Dance
DDA501 ADVANCED DANCE: This course is open to those students that are seriously committed to the art of dance and have substantial dance experience and instruction. This course will focus on higher expectations, advanced creativity and strong self-expression. Classroom choreography will include ballet, jazz, modern dance, theater and improvisation. This course requires a high level of effort, self-motivation, and commitment while encouraging fun and creative expression. (˝ credit) Open to S. Prerequisite: DDA 301, DDA 302.
DDR651 DRAMA II: This class will focus on basic acting skills such as; theater games, pantomime, creating a character, character analysis and projection. Acting techniques, developing productions for school. Students will read and study acting theory and techniques. Acting training which is to culminate in theater production allows for depth rather than part of an introductory drama course. Students in this acting course will explore the components of the formal production, characterization, conflict, motivation and setting. Theater Arts which deals with mechanical aspects of play production will also be included in this course of study. Some elements of blocking will be discussed as well as the financial aspects of play production. Also stressed in this course will be the role and function of a stage manager. All students will be asked to function as a stage manager for either in or out of class productions. Prerequisite: Drama I. This is a full year course meeting twice a week.. DDR671 DRAMA III: This course will delve into detail in styles of period acting with a focus on the playwrights Shakespeare, Moliere, Ibsen as well as the conventions of theater including Greek Chorus, Avant-Garde Staging and movement to represent language. Students will develop monologues in the styles of the playwrights studied as well as develop, in detail, one-act plays. Students will also focus on the role of props, costumes and lighting as devices for creating story, character and continuity. A focus on directing will be presented during the second marking period. Students will be asked to serve as assistant director for the productions scheduled during the academic year. Students will explore the unwritten subtext of a play and contribute to the overall form of the production. As assistant directors, students will receive training in casting, design and producing. Students will present either an evening of one-act plays or a classical theatrical performance in the spring or late winter. Prerequisites: DIT301 and DDR651 consent of instructor.
