NFA Science teacher, Heather Botelle mentored two teams for the Connecticut Science Fair this year. Zachary and Jessica Banning studied the Effect of Galenrucella on Lytrhum Salicaria. They received Pfizer Life Science Awards as finalists in the Life Science Senior High division, the Audubon Connecticut & Arch Chemicals Environmental Awards as senior finalists, and a Peabody Museum Award from the Peabody Fellows Program in Biodiversity and Human Health.
Samantha Schoepfer and Heather Leask received several awards for their study on the Impact of Park Clearing along the Yantic River on Benthic Macro Invertebrate Populations. Their awards included the first place Life Science Award in the Life Science Senior High division, the Audubon Connecticut & Arch Chemicals Environmental Awards as senior finalists, certificates from the Water Environment Federation and a savings bond for excellence in Microbiology from the Long Island Sound Foundation.
