We believe that, in today's world, world languages are an increasingly important vehicle for knowledge, communication and worldwide cultural understanding. It is the intent of the World Language Department to encourage each student to pursue the study of languages at all levels of proficiency. Students may move within and among languages as their desire and performance dictate. We, therefore, provide additional assistance, varied pacing, "bridges" among levels, acceptance of independent efforts, and flexibility in waiving requirements to support our belief that students should be challenged and to challenge themselves to meet the highest of expectations.
Advanced Placement language and literature courses challenge able and motivated students to develop and refine skills acquired over several years of study and provide them a means of obtaining college credit or placement or both. Students are expected to take the AP Exam in the spring. There is a fee for this exam. Certain courses will be offered only if sufficient students enroll. Occasionally students will be asked to purchase books or materials.
