* One (1) of the following science courses should be selected:
SIS004 INTEGRATED SCIENCE: Scientific experimentation, research, and discussion are integral parts of this course which explores a broad scope of topics, ranging from the origins of the Universe to the present-day conditions that support the diversity of life on the planet Earth. The course integrates key concepts, principles and theories in the fields of Astronomy, Geology, Meteorology, Oceanology, Limnology, and Environmental Science, using a thematic approach while emphasizing participation in science as a process based on inquiry. Students are required to have a scientific or graphing calculator. (1 credit) Open to J.
SIS075 ADVANCED INTEGRATED SCIENCE: Scientific experimentation, research, and discussion are integral parts of this course which explores a broad scope of topics, ranging from the origins of the Universe to the present-day conditions that support the diversity of life on the planet Earth. The course integrates key concepts, principles and theories in the fields of Astronomy, Geology, Meteorology, Oceanology, Limnology and Environmental Science, using a thematic approach while emphasizing participation in science as a process based on inquiry. This course puts a stronger emphasis on chemistry concepts, physics concepts and mathematical applications than SIS004. Students are required to have a scientific or graphing calculator. Prerequisite: Recommendation from previous science teacher. (1credit) Open to J.
* One (1) of the following mathematics courses should be selected:
MAL003 INTRODUCTION TO ALGEBRA AND GEOMETRY: This class is designed for students needing 2 years to complete Algebra 1. It involves working with signed numbers, data analysis and graphing, ratio and proportion, using formulas and solving equations. During the second semester, students will begin the formal study of Algebra 1. A scientific calculator is required but a graphing calculator (TI83/84PLUS) is preferred. (1 credit) Open to J.
MAL004 ALGEBRA 1: This is the standard Algebra 1 course for students planning to take the traditional sequence of high school mathematics courses including algebra 1, geometry, and algebra 2. It is designed to help students develop skills in simplifying, solving and graphing and in applying these skills in problem solving situations. A scientific calculator is required but a graphing (TI83/84PLUS) calculator is preferred. (1 credit) Open to J.
MGE084 PLANE GEOMETRY: This course includes the study of lines, planes, angles, triangles, circles, and polygons. There is some work with coordinate and three-dimensional geometry. Completion of a full year of algebra in the eighth grade and teacher recommendation required. A scientific calculator is required but a graphing (TI83/84PLUS) calculator is preferred. (1 credit) Open to J.
