Indoor Track Teams Win ECC's

On Monday, January 21, 2008 the boys and girls indoor track teams were both victorious at the ECC championship meet held at the Coast Guard Academy. On the girl’s side, NFA outscored East Lyme 193-153 for their first Eastern Conference Championship in the history of the program. The girls were led by All-Conference athletes Cassy Hunter, Meegan Joly, Jackie Sullivan, Amy Sinko, Lauren LePage, Miranda Wallace, Julia Gookin, and Kim Johnson. Kim also set a new state record in the Pole Vault with a vault of 11-01.25”.

The boys team won their third consecutive ECC title by defeating Ledyard 144-126. All conference athletes were Tashon Davis, Miguel Colon, and Andrew Cardin.

Vaulters and Coach Honored

The Hartford Courant has recognized the recent accomplishments of NFA Pole Vaulters Jessica Sullivan and Craig Babcock along with Vault Coach Russ VerSteeg.

Sullivan Shatters State Pole Vault Record (February 17)

For the third time this season Senior Jessica Sullivan has broken the state indoor pole vault record. This most recent record came at the State Open championship where Jessica cleared 11' 6" on her first attempt. The State Open Championship completes the trifecta for Jessica after having won ECC and Class LL titles. A special video is available that captures her record setting attempts from the SCC coaches meet.

Other top finishers for NFA include Kim Johnson clearing a personal best 10', tying for 2nd in the pole vault, and Amy Sinko placing 5th in the 600 meter run.

For the boys Craig Babcock cleared 13' placing 5th in the pole vault.
