Tenth Grade Physicals - Physical assessments are required for each student in the tenth grade. Students who have had a complete physical assessment during the ninth grade year also fulfill this requirement. This physical assessment must include height, weight, blood pressure, hematocrit or hemoglobin testing results, chronic disease assessment, and vision, hearing, postural and gross dental screenings as per Connecticut State Law Section 10-206 and 10-214. These requirements are also asterisked on the State of Connecticut Department of Education Health Assessment Record (blue physical exam form). Transferring students from out of state must present a completed physical assessment performed within the past year signed by a physician, physician's assistant or advanced practice registered nurse. Transferring eleventh or twelfth grade students from within the state require a complete physical assessment performed during their high school years prior to enrollment.
Sports Physicals - Students participating in interscholastic sports, intramural sports, crew club, outdoors club, ski club, skateboarding club, drill team, or marching band require an updated physical exam on file in the Medical Center. This physical which is required yearly, must not expire during the sport season. Should this occur, the physical exam is needed before starting the activity.
Whereas students are encouraged to have their physical exams performed by their private physicians, the School Based Health Clinic located at the Norwich Free Academy is also available to provide these physical assessments.
Screenings - Vision and scoliosis screenings are conducted on ninth grade students during the beginning of the second semester.
