New in the Library

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

This is a book that is hard to define. It is a Romance/Southern Gothic/Fantasy novel filled with eldritch characters. Ethan Wate, the narrator, lives in a small South Carolina town, and can't wait to get out! Then one day, Lena Duchannes, niece of the local, eccentric recluse, starts at Jackson High School and turns his world upside down. Lena is counting the days until her sixteenth-birthday, when her fate as a "Caster" will be determined. No spoilers here, so check it out! The next book in this new series will be out at the end of October. How appropriate! Oops, did I just give away something? --Ms. Wright

The Double Bind by: Chris Bohjalian

Laurel Estabrook is a college sophomore who is attacked and nearly killed while out biking. She pulls herself away from anything that may remind her of this incident and her photography. She eventually volunteers to work at a homeless shelter, where she dedicates most of her time. There she discovers some photographs that belonged to one of her clients, who soon start to unravel a mystery that some how connects to her past. I highly recommend this book to readers who love a great mystery and a nice twist at the end.

Osprey Cam--Milford

July 20. Look Mom and Dad, we're flying. All the chicks have now fledged, and are the same size as their parents, making for a crowded nest and camera that gets the wrong end of the bird from time to time. Fishing lessons are on the agenda for the next month as the chicks hone their flying and eating skills, before heading south for the winter by Labor Day.
