Governance
Incorporated in 1854, The Norwich Free Academy has since operated as a privately endowed secondary school governed by its appointed board of trustees. We draw strength from our independence and balance a commitment to excellence with appreciation and care for each student.
One of three endowed and incorporated academies in the state of Connecticut, NFA serves the city of Norwich as well as seven surrounding towns: Bozrah, Canterbury, Franklin, Lisbon, Preston, Sprague, and Voluntown. As a school of choice, NFA accepts students who choose to attend, and by agreement, their sending communities fund tuition. NFA also accepts private tuition students who are attracted to the school’s outstanding programs, its welcoming community and its distinctive campus.
Our independent status safeguards traditions and fosters innovative responses to the ever-changing needs of students. Our impact is measured by the generous financial support and active participation of our loyal alumni, trustees and other volunteer leaders.
All of the opportunities at NFA are designed to enrich the intellect, to facilitate the development of each student’s passion, to refine interests and to prepare all students for the world beyond NFA.
